Jay Schaefer was appointed to vice president and treasurer of Hawaiian Airlines in February 2016. He is responsible for overseeing corporate finance, fleet financing, cash management, fuel and foreign exchange hedging and enterprise risk management.
Schaefer brings to Hawaiian more than 20 years of experience in financial planning and analysis and treasury operations. He most recently served in various financial planning and analysis and transportation finance roles for Amazon in Seattle. Previously, he spent 13 years with Alaska Air Group where he held manager, director and vice president roles. As vice president - finance and treasurer for the parent company of Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air industries, Schaefer led three operational teams, guiding capital allocation decisions, and driving return on invested capital for the two subsidiaries.
Schaefer earned a bachelor’s in economics and political science from the University of California in Santa Cruz, and a master’s in business administration from the University of Washington.
