Hawaiian Airlines #1 in Punctuality and Baggage Handling in August

HONOLULU – Oct. 4, 2006 - For the fourth straight month, Hawaiian Airlines led the nation's carriers in August for both on-time performance and baggage handling, according to today's release of the U.S. Department of Transportation's (DOT) monthly Air Travel Consumer Report.

It was also the 34th consecutive month that Hawaiian has ranked as the nation's most punctual airline.



Hawaiian had the industry's best on-time performance during August with 95.7 percent of its flights arriving as scheduled. (To meet DOT standards, a flight must arrive within 15 minutes of schedule to be considered on time.).

Hawaiian was also ranked best in the nation for taking care of customers' luggage in August, with an industry-low 3.13 mishandled baggage reports for every 1,000 passengers flown.

In addition, Hawaiian ranked fourth nationally in fewest cancelled flights during August, with a score of 0.5 percent, representing just 25 cancellations out of 4,778 total flights. The airline also ranked third overall in consumer complaints, despite having only two complaints submitted to DOT during the month compared to the more than 548,000 passengers served.
