Hawaiian Airlines Again Leads DOT Service/Reliability Rankings

#1 in US for Punctuality, Baggage Handling and Fewest Cancelled Flights in February

HONOLULU –- Hawaiian Airlines continues to set higher standards of service, not only for Hawaii, but the nation. The DOT today issued its Air Travel Consumer Report for February. Hawaiian was America's #1 carrier in punctuality, schedule reliability, and baggage handling; in fewest consumer complaints to DOT, Hawaiian was 2nd best of 19 airlines reporting.

Hawaiian Airlines Trustee Joshua Gotbaum stated, “Hawaiian now offers some of the best and most reliable air service in the nation. And we're continuing to improve. With BaggageDirect to pick up your bags and Web Check-In, Hawaiian's customers can go straight to the plane, not to the back of the line.”

No airline has a better or more consistently on-time performance than Hawaiian. In February, 96.1 percent of all Hawaiian flights were on time, 13.5 percentage points ahead of its nearest competitor. Hawaiian had led the nation in on-time performance ever since it began reporting to DOT in 2003. (To meet DOT standards, a flight must arrive within 15 minutes of schedule to be considered on time.) Furthermore, of its 3,553 transpacific and interisland flights during the month, Hawaiian had only one cancellation, tops among all airlines nationwide.

Hawaiian takes care of its customers' bags, too. Hawaiian recorded only 2.68 mishandled baggage reports for every 1,000 passengers, again leading all carriers.

Of Hawaiian's 430,000 passengers in February, DOT received exactly one consumer complaint, giving Hawaiian the 2nd best performance in the nation.

The DOT report covers 19 airlines, including seven carriers providing service to Hawaii. The full report is available online at http://airconsumer.ost.dot.gov/reports/atcr05.htm.
