Hawaiian Airlines Again Tops National Carriers in DOT Performance Report

May Survey Ranks Hawaiian #1 for On Time Service and #1 for Baggage Handling

HONOLULU –- Hawaiian Airlines has been ranked the nation's number one on-time airline for the 19th consecutive month in the Department of Transportation (DOT) Air Travel Consumer Report for May 2005, issued today.

Hawaiian had a remarkable 95.9 percent of its flights arriving on time in May, placing it 12.2 percentage points ahead of the industry average of 83.7 percent. DOT classifies “on-time” as a flight that arrives within 15-minutes of schedule.

“It's a tribute to the teamwork at Hawaiian that we have been able to stay at the top of the industry month after month,” said Mark Dunkerley, Hawaiian's president and CEO. “However, to achieve the very best service for our customers, we hold ourselves to an even higher standard, which is flight departures to the minute. In May, 85.9 percent of all our flights departed on schedule to the minute.”

Hawaiian was also ranked #1 in baggage handling with only 2.78 mishandled baggage reports for every 1,000 passengers in May. It had the second fewest flight cancellations of the 19 airlines rated in the survey and ranked third in fewest oversales for the most recent quarter.

The report ranked Hawaiian 12th in customer complaints with only four complaints received in May. Hawaiian carried more than 475,000 passengers in May.

The DOT report covers 19 airlines, including seven carriers providing service to Hawaii. The full report is available online at http://airconsumer.ost.dot.gov/reports/atcr05.htm
