Hawaiian Airlines and Hawaii Children’s Discovery Center Launch New Airline Exhibit

HONOLULU – April 15, 2016 - Hawaiian Airlines and the Hawaii Children’s Discovery Center have formed an exciting new partnership that will enable children to “experience” the magic of aviation and its unique role in our community. A new interactive airline exhibit at the Center will open to the public on Tuesday, April 16, 2013.

The new exhibit uses real aircraft components and video displays to simulate the flight experience and encourages children to role-play in airline uniforms and imagine themselves working and flying aboard a Hawaiian Airlines flight.  The Center has added other interactive features including a check-in kiosk, an in-flight service cart, and uniforms for both flight attendants and pilots.

In addition, Hawaiian has provided aircraft components such as seats, carpeting, and uniform materials that are distinctively associated with Hawaiian Airlines.  Hawaiian has also provided real video footage from an aircraft cockpit that simulates a flight departure and landing, and a copy of its in-flight safety video to make the flight experience realistic.

“The beauty of a children’s museum is that it can address a variety of learning styles that cannot be fully accommodated in a classroom setting,” said Loretta Yajima, Board Chair.  “Our mission is to nurture the development of a child's imagination and to encourage children to realize the power of their dreams.  Most importantly, children will have fun while learning!  We’re tremendously excited about our partnership with Hawaiian Airlines and know that this exhibit will be extremely popular with our keiki.”

“There is nothing quite like flying to capture the imagination of a child – my career is certainly testament to that,” said Mark Dunkerley, Hawaiian’s president and chief executive officer.  “We consider the Children’s Discovery Center a strategic partner for Hawaiian because, with a growing workforce of nearly 5,000 employees based here in our islands, we depend on hiring hundreds of new employees each year and therefore have a vested interest in developing aviation enthusiasts of the future.  We hope many of the thousands of our keiki who first experience ‘flight’ in this exhibit will go on to pursue rewarding careers at Hawaiian.”

As part of the new partnership, Hawaiian will also promote the Children’s Discovery Center to its customers through in-flight entertainment media and frequent flyer communications, and the Center will promote Hawaiian through its visitor and member communications.
