Hawaiian Airlines Promotes Capt. Rolland F. Lawrence to Vice President - Flight Operations

HONOLULU, June 26, 2000 -- Hawaiian Airlines (ASE and PE: HA) has promoted Capt. Rolland ("Ron") F. Lawrence, a 34-year pilot with the company, to the position of Vice President - Flight Operations, effective June 26, 2000. The appointment was announced by President and Chief Executive Officer Paul J. Casey.

Reporting directly to Executive Vice President - Operations and Service Robert W. Zoller, Capt. Lawrence will oversee all activities and administration of Flight Operations.

A DC-10 captain currently flying the company's scheduled routes between Hawaii and the mainland U.S. and the South Pacific, Lawrence began his career with Hawaiian in 1966 as a DC-3 first officer flying interisland routes in Hawaii. He later flew DC-9 aircraft interisland and DC-8 and L-1011 aircraft on worldwide charter and transpacific scheduled flights.

From 1981 through 1983, Lawrence served as a member of the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) Negotiating Committee and from 1983 until 1985 as the ALPA Master Executive Council Chairman. He served as Director of Flight Operations at Hawaiian from 1985 through 1987 and in the two succeeding years oversaw the largest operational expansion in the airline's history, when Hawaiian expanded from strictly interisland to transpacific scheduled operations. In 1990, he rejoined the ALPA Negotiating Committee as Chairman and retained that position until 1994.

"Throughout Hawaiian's years of expansion from interisland carrier into one of the most competitive carriers in the transpacific market, Ron has served our company, its pilots and other employees with a great deal of integrity. His flight operations experience will be a valuable addition to the airline. And his experience on both sides of negotiations lends itself to the collaborative approach to management and labor relations at Hawaiian," Zoller said.

Founded in Honolulu 70 years ago, Hawaiian Airlines is Hawaii's longest-serving and largest airline and the nation's 12th largest carrier. With a fleet of 15 McDonnell Douglas DC-9s, Hawaiian provides award-winning service on more than 150 jet flights daily among the islands of Hawaii. The company also operates 14 widebody DC-10s on 14 flights a day between Hawaii and the U.S. mainland. Hawaiian's South Pacific DC-10 service links Honolulu to American Samoa and to Tahiti twice weekly.
