Hawaiian Airlines Requests Mediation in IAM Talks

HONOLULU, May 25, 2001 -- Hawaiian Airlines, Inc. (AMEX and PCX: HA) announced today that the company and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) have filed joint applications with the National Mediation Board for mediation assistance to help expedite contract negotiations for both clerical and mechanics' groups.

Hawaiian has been in talks with representatives of the union since January 2000. Both IAM contracts with the company became amendable on February 28, 2000.

IAM represents about 1,600 employees at Hawaiian Airlines who work in clerical, crew scheduling, ramp handling, mechanical and related jobs.

Hawaiian Airlines has entered into new 42-month contracts with the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) and the Association of Flight Attendants (AFA). The airline is currently in contract negotiations with representatives of the Transport Workers Union (TWU) and employees of the Communications Section.
