Hawaiian Airlines Tops DOT Service Performance in April

#1 for On Time, Fewest Flights Cancelled and Baggage Handling

HONOLULU –- The top airline serving Hawaii once again earned its way to the top of the U.S. Department of Transportation's (DOT) monthly rankings for April, with Hawaiian Airlines leading all carriers in on-time performance, fewest flights cancelled and baggage handling.

The DOT today issued its Air Travel Consumer Report for April reaffirming Hawaiian's stature as an industry-wide pacesetter for reliability of service to travelers.

“Each month Hawaiian's employees are asked to provide a consistency of high-quality service offered by no other airline, and each month they come through with flying colors,” said Mark Dunkerley, Hawaiian's president and CEO. “The DOT report for April is just the latest example of the pride our employees take in serving Hawaii's travelers.”

For the 18th consecutive month dating back to November 2003, Hawaiian ranked as the nation's #1 airline in punctuality with a remarkable 95.6 percent of its flights arriving on time, placing it 12.2 percentage points ahead of the industry average of 83.4 percent. (To meet DOT standards, a flight must arrive within 15 minutes of schedule to be considered on time.)

In addition, Hawaiian finished #1 among all carriers for fewest flights cancelled in April with only five cancellations out of 3,889 total flights, equaling just one-tenth of one percent.

Hawaiian also finished as the nation's top-rated airline at handling customers' luggage with only 2.90 mishandled baggage reports for every 1,000 passengers in April.

And although only four complaints were received out of the more than 450,000 passengers that Hawaiian carried in April, the DOT ranked the airline 12th overall in this category.

The DOT report covers 19 airlines, including seven carriers providing service to Hawaii. The full report is available online at http://airconsumer.ost.dot.gov/reports/atcr05.htm.
