HONOLULU – October 13, 2011 - The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) today issued its
Air Travel Consumer Report for the month of August, showing that Hawaiian Airlines scored the nation’s highest rankings for on-time performance and fewest flight cancellations.
The DOT reported that 94.8 percent of Hawaiian’s flights arrived as scheduled during August, earning Hawaii’s largest and longest-serving carrier the #1 ranking for on-time performance and also exceeding the industry average by 15.5 percentage points.
Complementing Hawaiian’s record of punctuality was its industry-leading score for fewest cancelled flights in August at 0.1 percent, representing only four cancellations out of 5,832 total flights.
Hawaiian also earned the industry’s second highest ranking for the handling of customers’ luggage during August, with 2.10 mishandled baggage reports filed for every 1,000 passengers carried.
In addition, Hawaiian finished third overall for fewest consumer complaints at 0.77 percent, with the DOT reporting only six complaints compared to almost 780,000 passengers carried in August.
Hawaiian Airlines is the largest provider of air service to Hawaii from the Western U.S., as well as the leading carrier for interisland service between the islands of Hawaii.
