Hawaiian is Nation’s #1 for Punctuality, Baggage Handling in August

HONOLULU – Oct. 2, 2008 - Hawaiian Airlines finished the month of August as the nation’s top-ranked carrier for on-time performance and baggage handling, according to the monthly Air Travel Consumer Report issued today by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT).

“Our employees continue to do a fantastic job of keeping Hawaii’s travelers on schedule and provide a service level unmatched nationwide,” said Mark Dunkerley, Hawaiian’s president and CEO.

During August, the DOT reported that 92.3 percent of Hawaiian’s flights arrived as scheduled, leading all carriers nationally and topping the industry average by nearly 14 percentage points. (To meet DOT standards, a flight must arrive within 15 minutes of schedule to be considered on time.)

The DOT also ranked Hawaiian as the industry’s #1 carrier for fewest misplaced bags in August. Hawaiian averaged an industry-low 2.89 mishandled baggage reports for every 1,000 passengers.

The DOT report covers 19 airlines, including nine carriers providing service to Hawaii. The report is available online at http://airconsumer.ost.dot.gov/reports/atcr08.htm.
