Hawaiian Leads Airline Industry in On-Time Performance for June

HONOLULU – Aug. 5, 2008 - Hawaiian Airlines was America’s leader for punctuality in June as reported today by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) with its monthly Air Travel Consumer Report.

Hawaiian had 92.2 percent of its flights arrive on schedule during June, which was 21.4 percentage points better than the industry average of 70.8 percent. (To meet DOT standards, a flight must arrive within 15 minutes of schedule to be considered on time.)

Mark Dunkerley, Hawaiian’s president and CEO, said Hawaiian’s performance was particularly noteworthy since the airline has been flying at full capacity without a spare aircraft in reserve since April.

“I’m proud of how our employees have kept Hawaiian atop the industry and Hawaii’s travelers moving efficiently in spite of the intense operational demands these past few months,” said Dunkerley.

Complementing Hawaiian’s ability to keep customers on time was a national #2 ranking for fewest cancelled flights in June at 0.3 percent, representing only 17 cancellations out of 5,301 total flights.

Hawaiian ranked third nationally in June for fewest misplaced bags, with 3.73 mishandled baggage reports for every 1,000 passengers. Year-to-date Hawaiian is ranked #1 with an average score of 3.14 mishandled baggage reports per 1,000 passengers through the first six months.

Oversales are reported quarterly and in this area Hawaiian finished second nationally for fewest passengers denied boarding at 0.09 percent for every 10,000 passengers served in the second quarter.

The DOT report covers 19 airlines, including nine carriers providing service to Hawaii. The report is available online at http://airconsumer.ost.dot.gov/reports/atcr08.htm.
