Hawaiian Leads Nation’s Carriers in DOT Service Reliability for June

HONOLULU – Aug. 6, 2007 - For the second straight month, Hawaiian Airlines led the nation's carriers in on-time performance, best baggage handling and fewest flight cancellations, as reported in the U.S. Department of Transportation's (DOT) Air Travel Consumer Report for June (see chart).

“Our employees consistently provide a level of customer service that no other airline comes close to matching,” said Mark Dunkerley, Hawaiian's president and CEO. “They have made Hawaiian the nation's most reliable airline.”

Hawaiian was the nation's best on-time airline in June with 92.9 percent of its flights arriving as scheduled, surpassing the industry average by a margin of 24.8 percentage points.

Impressively, June was the 41st month out of the past 44 that Hawaiian has been the nation's most punctual carrier, including a record 36 straight months from November 2003 to October 2006. (To meet DOT standards, a flight must arrive within 15 minutes of schedule to be considered on time.)

Hawaiian also had the nation's highest rankings for both baggage handling and fewest cancelled flights, the third consecutive month it has topped the DOT report in both categories.

Hawaii's biggest and longest-serving airline recorded an industry-low 3.48 mishandled baggage reports for every 1,000 passengers in June. Hawaiian also had the nation's best score year-to-date, with 3.35 mishandled baggage reports for every 1,000 passengers through the first six months of the year.

Hawaiian's service reliability in June was complemented by the nation's top score for fewest cancelled flights, with only 10 cancellations out of 4,808 total flights, or 0.2 percent.

In the category of oversales – which are reported quarterly – Hawaiian ranked second nationally for fewest passengers denied boarding, with a score of 0.07 percent for every 10,000 passengers served in the second quarter.

The DOT report covers 20 airlines, including 10 carriers providing service for Hawaii. The full report is available online at http://airconsumer.ost.dot.gov/reports/atcr07.htm.
