Hawaiian Most On-Time Airline in September DOT Report

HONOLULU – Nov. 09, 2009 - Hawaiian Airlines led the airline industry in on-time performance for the month of September with 94.1 percent of its flights arriving as scheduled, according to the Air Travel Consumer Report issued today by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT).

Hawaiian also tied the industry’s best record for fewest cancelled flights and fewest oversales in the monthly report, with just eight cancellations out of 5,904 total flights in September and a perfect score of zero involuntary denied boardings out of more than 2.2 million passengers served for the whole third quarter of 2009 (oversales reported quarterly).

Hawaiian ranked third-highest in baggage handling during September, reporting 1.90 mishandled baggage reports for every 1,000 passengers served. Through three quarters, Hawaiian ranked second overall at 1.95 mishandled baggage reports per 1,000 passengers.

Hawaiian ranked third in the category of consumer complaints in September, with the DOT recording two complaints out of more than 680,000 passengers served.

Hawaiian is the nation’s largest provider of air service to Hawaii from the Western U.S., as well as the leading carrier for interisland service within the islands of Hawaii.
