Ticket Agent Jaclyn Salazar is the 2004 Volunteer of the Year
HONOLULU -- This Friday, February 4, Hawaiian Airlines will help generate public support for the good work of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Honolulu with a special promotion tied to its ongoing sponsorship of University of Hawaii athletics.
Hawaiian's promotion for the nonprofit mentoring organization is especially timely. Jaclyn Salazar, a ticket agent for Hawaiian at Honolulu International Airport, was recently honored for her work as the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Honolulu Volunteer of the Year for 2004. In addition, January was National Mentoring Month.
Hawaiian has teamed up with UH athletics to theme the men's volleyball match this Friday between UH and Stanford as “Big Brothers Big Sisters Night” at the Stan Sheriff Center. Along with increased public awareness, the special promotion will include the following:
- UH athletics and Hawaiian are giving complimentary tickets to Big Brothers Big Sisters for volunteer “Bigs” to bring their “Littles” to the game.
- Hawaiian's “Team Kokua” will pass out Big Brothers Big Sisters wristbands engraved with the slogan “Little Moments … Big Magic” to the first 500 fans.
- Hawaiian will donate 20,000 HawaiianMiles to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Honolulu.
- HawaiianMiles members will be encouraged to contribute frequent flyer miles to Big Brothers Big Sisters through the HawaiianMiles Charity Donation Program.
“As a former Big Sister myself, I have personally witnessed the impact this organization can have at improving the lives and outlook for Hawaii's keiki,” said Debbie Nakanelua-Richards, Hawaiian's senior manager of government and community relations. “We hope our promotional efforts will inspire more people to become 'Big Brothers' and 'Big Sisters' and support the importance of youth mentoring in our communities.”

The UH Volleyball promotion is the first event that Hawaiian has scheduled with UH athletics to support nonprofit organizations in Hawaii. Upcoming themed events include UH Wahine softball for the “Hawaiian Airlines Spring Fling Tournament” from March 9-12, and UH men's baseball games on April 3rd with San Jose State, and May 12th versus Fresno State.
