Hawaiian Tops All Airlines for Punctuality and Baggage Handling in May

HONOLULU – Jul. 6, 2006 - Hawaiian Airlines again had the nation's top scores for service in May, finishing #1 in punctuality and baggage handling and in the top four of the other categories, according to the monthly Air Travel Consumer Report issued today by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT).



The DOT report showed that no airline did a better job of keeping customers on schedule in May than Hawaiian with its 95.0 percent on-time performance. The #1 ranking also extended Hawaiian's streak of leading the nation in punctuality to 31 consecutive months. (To meet DOT standards, a flight must arrive within 15 minutes of schedule to be considered on time.).

Hawaii's biggest and longest-serving airline was also America's best at handling customers' luggage in May, with only 2.57 mishandled baggage reports for every 1,000 passengers flown.

In addition, Hawaiian finished fourth nationally in fewest cancelled flights during May, with only 12 cancellations out of 4,131 total flights, or 0.3 percent. Hawaiian also had the nation's fourth best record in consumer complaints, despite having only one complaint submitted to DOT compared to the more than 502,000 passengers carried during the month.
