Hawaiian Wins International Award for Inflight Entertainment

HONOLULU – Sep. 21, 2006 - A dedication to highlighting Hawaii's culture, people and natural beauty has made Hawaiian Airlines an international winner with its inflight video entertainment.

Hawaiian earned top honors in the category of “Best Entertainment for Main Screen” in the small fleet category (24 or fewer aircraft) at the 18th Annual Avion Awards.

A major reason for Hawaiian earning the award was its “Hawaiian Skies” inflight video program shown in both first class and the main cabin. Produced by Hawaiian on a bi-monthly basis in association with Coco Palms Pictures, Hawaiian Skies emphasizes the unique qualities and cultural attractions that make Hawaii stand out as a destination. In addition, Hawaiian is the only airline serving Hawaii that shows an inflight ocean safety video.

“We're committed to letting Hawaii's people and culture tell the story of what makes being in the islands such a special experience and I think the judges were impressed by that,” said Liane Komatsu, Hawaiian's manager in charge of inflight entertainment.

Hawaiian was also named first runner-up for “Best Overall Inflight Entertainment” in the small fleet category, finishing second only to Jet Airways of India.

A 23-member international judging panel evaluated more than 160 samples of inflight audio, video, print and interactive entertainment representing 42 airlines worldwide. Entries were judged for originality, suitability, production value and content.

Sponsored by the nonprofit World Airline Entertainment Association (WAEA), the Avion Awards were presented on September 15 in Miami, Florida, to honor excellence in several categories of airline entertainment involving video, audio, print and interactive media.
