Hawaiian’s Neighbor Island Travel Plans Allow Customers to Lock in Savings for a Year

HONOLULU – December 13, 2011 - Neighbor Island travelers now have the ability to choose from a range of four travel plans that allow them to lock in lower fares over a 12-month period with a new product introduced today by Hawaiian Airlines.

Hawaiian’s new Neighbor Island Travel Plans offer customers savings of up to 14% off its current lowest web fares for nonstop travel between Honolulu and Lihue, Kauai, Kahului, Maui, and Hilo and Kona on Hawaii Island.

“We spent close to a year studying the travel habits of our HawaiianMiles members as we developed our Neighbor Island Travel Plans and believe most of our local customers will find value in one or more of these options,” commented Mark Dunkerley, Hawaiian’s president and CEO. “Hawaiian Airlines got its start as an interisland carrier 82 years ago, and that remains the heart and soul of our business. Even as we grapple with increasing operating costs, we are always looking for ways to keep Neighbor Island travel affordable for our local customers.”

Hawaiian is offering four different Neighbor Island Travel Plans, ranging from a package of four roundtrip tickets for the individual who makes occasional trips to visit friends and family or to explore the islands, to a bundle of 60 one-way segments for the frequent commuter (see chart below).

Fares range from $64 per one-way segment with some restrictions for the My Favorite Island plan, to $76 per segment for Freedom, the largest unrestricted plan. These prices include a 7.5% U.S. tax. Final purchase prices will also include the required federal $3.70 segment fee and $2.50 TSA security fee so customers do not have to worry about additional payments when booking.

“This allows our customers to lock in a guaranteed price for a 12-month period and take the worry out of finding the best possible fare,” said Avi Mannis, Hawaiian’s vice president of marketing.

Earlier this year Hawaiian conducted a test of the new program with more than 1,000 HawaiianMiles members over a six-month period. Customer response was extremely favorable with
90 percent of the participants expressing satisfaction with the experience.

The travel plans are available only to HawaiianMiles members. Enrollment in HawaiianMiles is free, fast, and can be done online at Hawaiian’s website, www.HawaiianAirlines.com. New members immediately start accruing the benefits of membership, including the saving opportunities offered by the Neighbor Island Travel Plans.

The plans are available for purchase at www.HawaiianAirlines.com/Neighbor-Island-Travel-Plan.

About Hawaiian Airlines

Hawaiian has led all U.S. carriers in on-time performance for each of the past seven years (2004-2010) as reported by the U.S. Department of Transportation. In addition, consumer surveys by Condé Nast Traveler, Travel + Leisure and Zagat have all ranked Hawaiian the top domestic airline offering flights to Hawaii. Hawaiian was also the nation’s highest-ranked carrier for service quality and performance in the prestigious Airline Quality Rating (AQR) study for 2008 and 2009.

Now in its 83rd year of continuous service in Hawaii, Hawaiian is the largest provider of passenger air service to Hawaii from the state’s primary visitor markets on the U.S. mainland. Hawaiian offers nonstop service to Hawaii from more U.S. gateway cities (10) than any other airline, as well as service to Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, Australia, American Samoa, and Tahiti. Hawaiian also provides approximately 150 daily jet flights between the Hawaiian Islands.
