HONOLULU -- For the sixth consecutive month, Hawaiian Airlines topped the nation's carriers for on-time service in April, producing its best results yet with 94.9 percent of its flights arriving on schedule.
Hawaiian's April was highlighted by no flight cancellations for the month and four perfect days – meaning all 130-plus flights for each of those days arrived on time.
“Having 95 percent of all flights arrive on-time is not just phenomenal, it's unheard of,” said Mark Dunkerley, president and chief operating officer of Hawaiian Airlines. “Once again our employees have proved that no airline does a better job day-in-and-day-out of getting travelers to their destinations promptly than Hawaiian Airlines.”
The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) today issued its Air Travel Consumer Report for April (see chart below) showing that Hawaiian had the airline industry's best on-time record of the 19 major and regional airlines that filed monthly statistics with the federal agency.
On-time service, according to DOT standards, is any flight arriving within 15 minutes of schedule. Rounding out the top five after Hawaiian were ATA Airlines, 87.6 percent; SkyWest Airlines, 87.1 percent; JetBlue Airways, 86.9 percent; and AirTran Airways, 86.3 percent.
Dunkerley noted that Hawaiian has topped the nation's airlines for each of the six months since it began reporting monthly statistics to the DOT.
Hawaiian provides more than 30 transpacific flights and 100 interisland flights daily. Interisland flights are especially challenging for Hawaiian's employees to maintain the company's industry-leading on-time service record – and achieve perfect flying days – as it consists of back-to-back flights with short, 25-minute transition times on the ground.
