HONOLULU – Jan. 4, 2006 - Hawaiian Airlines continued its successful run as the nation's #1 on-time carrier for the 25th consecutive month in November 2005, as reported in today's release of the U.S. Department of Transportation's (DOT) monthly Air Travel Consumer Report.
Hawaiian led all carriers nationwide in on-time performance with 95.2 percent of its flights arriving as scheduled in November, surpassing the industry average of 80.0 percent by 15.2 percentage points. (To meet DOT standards, a flight must arrive within 15 minutes of schedule to be considered on time.)
Hawaii's biggest and longest-serving carrier has been America's most punctual airline for every month since November 2003, when Hawaiian began voluntarily reporting its service performance statistics to the DOT.
Hawaiian also ranked as the nation's second-best airline for handling customers' luggage, with only 2.62 mishandled baggage reports for every 1,000 passengers. In addition, Hawaiian had the fourth-best score for fewest cancelled flights at 0.2 percent, recording only nine cancellations out of 3,898 total flights.
Hawaiian finished tenth for consumer complaints, even though DOT received only three complaints from the more than 488,000 passengers carried by Hawaiian during November.
The DOT report covers 20 airlines, including seven carriers providing service to Hawaii. The full report is available online at http://airconsumer.ost.dot.gov/reports/atcr06.htm.
