US DOT: Hawaiian Airlines Ranked Nation's Most Reliable

Punctuality, Fewest Cancellations, Baggage Handling Highlight Consumer Report

HONOLULU –- Hawaiian Airlines ranked best overall among the nation's airlines in a compilation of the airline performance ratings published today in the U.S. Department of Transportation's Air Travel Consumer Report for March 2005.

Of the 19 carriers ranked by DOT, Hawaiian Airlines led in on-time service for the 17th consecutive month. Hawaiian also had the fewest cancelled flights and had the second best performance in baggage handling. DOT received three complaints from the 502,542 passengers carried by Hawaiian Airlines in March, placing the airline 8th of 19 on this measure. The report also ranked Hawaiian third best in avoiding oversales, a category that is measured quarterly.

Hawaiian Airlines Trustee Joshua Gotbaum stated, “The people of Hawaiian Airlines continue to show you can provide the best service in America and the most reliable, too.”

No airline has a better or more consistently on-time performance than Hawaiian. In March, 90.5 percent of all Hawaiian flights were on time, 7.9 percentage points ahead of its nearest competitor. The company posted an average 93 percent on-time rating for the first quarter and has led the nation in this category ever since it began reporting to DOT in 2003. (To meet DOT standards, a flight must arrive within 15 minutes of schedule to be considered on time.)

The DOT report covers 19 airlines, including seven carriers providing service to Hawaii. The full report is available online at http://airconsumer.ost.dot.gov/reports/atcr05.htm.

About Hawaiian Airlines

Hawaiian Airlines, the nation's number one on-time carrier, is recognized as one of the best airlines in America. Celebrating its 76th year of continuous service, Hawaiian is Hawaii's biggest and longest-serving airline, and the second largest provider of passenger air service between Hawaii and the U.S. mainland. Hawaiian offers nonstop service to Hawaii from more U.S. gateway cities than any other airline. Hawaiian also provides approximately 100 daily jet flights among the Hawaiian Islands, as well as service to Australia, American Samoa and Tahiti.
